In March, 2011, I did a week-long river cruise in Germany with Viking River Cruises. The scenery was spectacular, as we cruised along the Main, Rhine, and Moselle rivers and did side trips and tours of various cities and sights along the way. I also visited Luxembourg toward the end of the trip. The trip started in Wurzburg, Germany, and included Rothenburg, Heidelberg, Mainz, the Rhine castles, Cochem, Bernkastel, and Trier. Luxembourg was my own side trip. The spring weather was absolutely glorious - sunny and warm each day of the trip, with a gentle layer of light green poking out of the trees. Anyone who has done these river cruises - or even seen the area by train or automobile - can relate to the castles and historic buildings that I saw.
