Ireland - August 2010

In August 2010, I traveled to Ireland for five days on train passes; this was my second visit to this country. Despite the relatively short time period, I was able to see a lot. Places I visited included Thurles, Dublin, Cork, Killarney, Tralee, and the Dingle Peninsula. I loved the scenery of the latter. I had good weather, and the scenery of the Emerald Isle certainly lived up to its name, as the pictures show.

Myself in front of Thurles Cathedral.

Patchwork-quilt green countryside in southwest Ireland. This type of scenery is also common in Devon and Cornwall in southwest England.

Dingle Peninsula scenery. This area is probably one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland.

Irish road sign; these are generally in both Gaelic and English.

Blarney Castle just outside of Cork. Of course this is one of the "must-sees" for tourists in Ireland, even if you don't want to kiss the namesake stone in order to get the "gift of gab".

Campus of Trinity College in Dublin.

Dublin Castle.

Typical street in Dublin.

Sr. Anne's Church in Cork. The bell tower is a noted landmark within the city. You can climb the bell tower and ring the bells yourself.

Stained glass windows within St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.

Irish scenery visible from the plane heading westbound from Dublin.

Typical street in Killarney.
